How to get more Google reviews, and how to reply to them
Reviews are often the first thing a new customer reads. Here's how to ask happy customers for them the right way, and how to reply well, even to the unhappy ones.

When someone finds your business on Google, their eyes go straight to the stars and the reviews. A shop with many recent, genuine reviews and polite replies looks alive and trusted. A shop with three reviews from years ago looks uncertain, even if it's busy every day.
Most loyal customers would happily leave a review. They just need to be asked, at the right moment, in an easy way.
How to ask for reviews
Ask at the right moment
The best time is when the customer is happy: when they compliment the sweets, thank you after a treatment or come back for a second order.
Make it one tap
Google gives every business a short review link from its Google Business Profile. Use it in a few places:
- A QR code card on the counter: “Enjoyed your visit? Leave us a review”
- A WhatsApp message after an order is delivered
- A small line on bills, boxes or appointment cards
Ask simply and personally
A short, warm message works best: “Thank you for ordering with us! If you enjoyed it, a quick Google review would really help our small shop. Here's the link.”
What not to do
These are against Google's rules, and Google can remove reviews or penalise listings for them:
- Don't offer discounts, gifts or freebies in exchange for reviews
- Don't write reviews for yourself or ask staff and family to post fake ones
- Don't only ask happy customers through a filter that sends unhappy ones elsewhere
- Don't buy reviews. Ever.
How to reply to reviews
Replying shows every future reader that a real person cares. Reply to all reviews, good and bad, within a few days if you can.
Replying to a happy review
Keep it short, warm and specific: “Thank you, Priya ji! So glad the family enjoyed the kaju katli at Diwali. See you again soon.”
Replying to an unhappy review
This one matters more, because new customers read it closely.
- Stay calm. Never argue in public.
- Thank them and apologise for their experience, even if you see it differently.
- Explain briefly if there's a fair reason, without blaming the customer.
- Offer to fix it privately: “Please WhatsApp us on this number so we can make it right.”
A polite reply to a complaint often earns more trust than the complaint costs.
Reviews and being found
Reviews help customers choose you, and they're also one of the signals Google uses in local search. Regular, genuine reviews and replies keep your profile active and trustworthy. That's part of local SEO.
